The Breakthrough into Colour…
The Transition to Digital Art.
For some time, I felt that I wanted to bring some colour to my pictures but how? I briefly experimented with coloured pencils and pastels but was never really satisfied with the results I achieved. Oil painting required a completely different skill set and lots of expensive materials. Then, during the lockdowns of 2020 I embraced digital art by downloading the SketchBook app onto my Macbook Pro and simply began to colourize some of my original pencil drawings. I was very surprised at the versatility of the software and the effects that can be achieved. The biggest advantages I discovered were that you don’t create an almighty mess as you would have with paints or pastels, you don’t have to clean anything up after you finish and you can always click “undo” if you make a mistake, thereby avoiding any frustration and turning your room upside down in a fit of artistic rage.
Since then I have focused on digital art, continuously refining and developing my own personal artistic style by creating entirely new pictures or revisiting previously drawn ones. So, what started off as nothing more than sketch-like images has now evolved into detailed digital illustrations.
