Mai

Digital painitng of a young Vietnamese lady reaching out to the cascading Yellow Mai Flowers.

Ochna intergerrima or the Yellow Mai Flower as it is commonly known is a celebrated plant in Vietnam and is usually in bloom around January and February during the country’s Lunar New Year. This picture was inspired by the iconography and artwork I saw during a brief visit to Ho Chi Minh City to see a friend, although the Yellow Mai Flower was not in bloom at the time. It is also an exercise in the use of complimentary colours where the golden shades of the young lady’s Ao Dai dress and the cascading Yellow Mai Flowers are emphasized by the blue-teal background.

A 50 x 40cm framed reproduction of “Mai” on high quality 320gsm Sihl Masterclass Cotton textured paper as has also been made for exhibition purposes.
